The Toriko inspired Gyudon (Japanese marinated beef on rice) is now on sale at Sukiya stores nationwide! This is coinciding with the release new Toriko film Toriko the Movie: Bishokushin's Special Menu.
Toriko is a popular manga/anime series about a incredibly strong "Gourmet Hunter" searching for the most precious foods in the world so he can create his full-course meal.
Sukiya is a popular restaurant chain which is known for their gyudon with over 1000 stores nationwide.
A manga about food and a restaurant seems like a good combination whilst also setting a high bar, so I went to have one for myself.

The Reality... |
Nailed it... |
Despite the fact that it doesn't look anything like the poster pictures, the taste was quite good. It is basically a normal gyudon topped with mayonnaise, cabbage, katsuobushi flakes, nori flakes, and a raw egg, which are the ingredients of an Okonomiyaki (a Japanese vegetable omelet). The flavors all work together to create a balance and for 390 yen (around $3.50US), its a bargain gourmet fast food.
Also with every purchase ,you get a ticket for a chance to win a special mini Toriko rice bowl.
Unforutanely, I wasn't lucky this time...
His smile pisses me off even more |
But I got a wallpaper of one of the characters.
Haven't read the manga or seen the film so I have no idea who this is... |
