As of September 11th, Hayao Miyazaki's Swan song "The Wind Rises" reached over 10 Billion Yen ($100 million US) in at the Japanese Box Office, having more than 8.1 million people go see the film in the span of 54 days. The last film to reach the 100 million mark was Miyazaki's previous film "Ponyo".
The anime film has been No 1 at the box office for 5 consecutive weeks and the popularity has continued with the announcement of Hayao Miyazaki's retirement from feature films.
"The Wind Rises" is a fictional biography of Jiro Horikoshi who designed fighter jets during World War 2.
