Japan Film News: Studio Ghibli's Hayao Miyazaki Retires from Filmmaking

Hayao Miyazaki, the director of classic anime films such as "My Neighbor Totoro", "Kiki's Delivery Service" and Academy Award winning "Spirited Away", held a press conference yesterday officially announcing his retirement from filmmaking.

His stated that the main reason for his retirement was his age, as his last film "The Wind Rises" took 5 years to reach the screen.

For the meantime he will focus on his work as the curator of the Ghibli Museum.

Thank you Mr. Miyazaki for your great work and showing the world that japanese anime isn't just about big eyes and tentacles.
