Japan Technology News: Docomo Xperia annouce collaboration with Hatsune Miku [Xperia feat. Hatsune Miku]

Today, the Japanese telecommunications company NTT DOCOMO announced its new limited edition smartphone, the"Xperia feat. Hatsune Miku".

It's basically the Xperia A in a light blue Vocaloid mascot themed shell. And no specific about unique features have been annouced at this point. A nod to Miku is that only 39,000 units will be manufactured.  39 is read as Mi-ku in Japanese... So get it!? Mi-ku-thousand!! LOL!!


Simultaneously, the official website was launched dx39.net. The naming of the url comes from "docomo" "Xperia" "39" .

MIKU = 39!! The puns keep coming!!

Several promotional campaigns themed around Miku have been planned.
In Vocaloid fashion, the website is asking for user generated content (songs and illustrations) called the "Find Your MIKU Project".

Another is "HATSUNE MIKU AR STAGE" where a smartphone camera app will allow you to watch an augmented reality live of Miku off your phone when pointed at the "Metro Hat" stage in Roppongi Hills.
The live will run from July 16th to the 21st between the hours of 7:30pm to 11pm.

Let's just hope the phone will have cool features and won't just be a pretty shell.
